Bamboo
The Story of the Bamboo
Originated and named by Mr. Louis Eppinger, an acclaimed German bartender who made his name tending a small bar on Halleck Street, San Francisco. Eppinger's reputation for crafting innovative and delicious cocktails quickly spread throughout the city, attracting a loyal following of patrons who marveled at his unique creations.
In 1889, Eppinger's talents caught the attention of a group of American naval officers stationed in Yokohama, Japan. Impressed by his skills, they invited him to manage the bar at Grand Hotel. This marked the beginning of a new chapter in Eppinger's career, as he brought his expertise and creativity to a new audience in a different cultural setting.
The Bamboo Cocktail, believed to have been inspired by the Adonis, showcases Eppinger's mastery in mixing flavors and finding the perfect balance between sherry and vermouth. Over the years, various recipes for the Bamboo have emerged, each offering a unique twist on this classic drink while staying true to its origins and the vision of its creator.
